Remember what Jesus said in his prayer, which he taught us to say: “Father, forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.” In that statement, Jesus clearly laid out a prerequisite for our receiving God’s forgiveness. It is clear that God will forgive us only if we forgive others. In fact, God will forgive us, in the same manner that we forgive others. If we can forgive others, then we can expect God to forgive us. If we can forgive anything that anyone has done against us, then God too will forgive anything. Let us not forget this today, if we are seeking God’s forgiveness.
It is important that we forgive others. If we won’t forgive others, then God too won’t forgive them. For God also said, “If you forgive anyone's sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven."
So let us be careful when we deal with others. If we bear unforgiveness in our hearts towards anyone, that person will not be forgiven by God. Therefore, let us not withhold forgiveness today. For the way we forgive, will be the way God forgives us and others.
